AIMIM plans to contest 100 seats, may derail applecart of INDIA bloc
KISHANGANJ, Oct. 13 -- All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has announced plans to contest at least 100 assembly seats in the ongoing Bihar elections. The party, which is also exploring the possibility of forming a third front in the state, has already identified 32 seats and is expected to announce more in the next day or two. Political analysts believe this development could upset the applecart of the Opposition INDIA bloc.
"The name of the contestants will be announced in a day or two besides we are in touch with some other parties so that we can form a third front to defeat NDA," national spokesperson of the party Adil Hasan told HT over phone on Sunday. He said that AIMIM would field its candidates in Darbhanga, Gaya ji, Champaran, Bhagalpur, Nawada, Gopalganj besides Seemanchal.
He said, "We have already identified 14 seats in Seemanchal comprising four districts (Purnea, Katihar, Kishanganj and Araria) with 24 assembly constituencies where elections are scheduled on November 11.
"But we will contest more than 14 in Seemanchal and everything will come out by tomorrow," the spokesperson said. "We are in touch with BSP (Bahujan Samaj Party) and Swami Prasad Maurya's party RSSP (Rashtriya Shoshit Samaj Party) and very soon we will have our front to make the two mainstream alliances INDIA bloc and NDA feel our presence in the election."
Here it is worth recalling that the AIMIM had formed an alliance in the last assembly election when it had made GDSF (Grand Democratic Secular Front) with Samajwadi Janta Dal Democratic, Rashtriya Lok Samta Party (now no longer in existence) BSP and PSP to put up a fight against NDA and Grand Alliance. Though the alliance couldn't impact the election, AIMIM won five seats two each in Purnea and Kishanganj and one in Araria. However, in 2022, four of its MLAs defected to RJD.
AIMIM this time has planned not only to teach its defectors a lesson but also to make its more emphatic presence particularly in Seemanchal by winning more number of seats.
"Yes, we have much better chance this time as people have seen how RJD treated with us despite the fact we repeatedly tried to give a united fight with INDIA bloc to defeat NDA in Bihar," national spokesperson said, claiming "We are getting the support from all sections of society."
Party insiders said that those who defected to RJD have turned out to be opportunities for AIMIM.
Now RJD is facing rebellion from its leaders after they are being neglected at the cost of defectors....
