PURNEA, Nov. 16 -- In the rout of opposition in Bihar elections, turncoats have suffered the worst. Almost all of them lost election in the Seemanchal region, while those who stayed loyal to their parties emerged victorious. AIMIM and JD(U) turncoats faced humiliating defeats in the results declared on Friday. Youngest son of Mohammad Tasleemuddin, Shahnawaz Alam, who had won Jokihat seat on AIMIM ticket in 2020 and later defected to RJD faced crushing defeat on the seat. Mohammad Murshid Alam an AIMIM candidate won the seat by defeating Manzar Alam of JD(U). AIMIM turncoat and RJD candidate Shahnawaz Alam was pushed to the fourth position, securing just 29,659 votes. His elder brother Sarfaraz Alam who secured 35, 354 votes was pushed to the third. The seat was on the talk during electioneering due to sibling rivalry. In 2022 four AIMIM MLAs defected to RJD with the hope they would be given tickets to contest 2025 assembly elections but out of the four three were denied tickets while RJD gave the party ticket only to Shahnawaz Alam in Jokihat constituency and he lost to AIMIM. Similarly JD(U) turncoat Mujahid Alam who contested Kochadhaman seat on RJD ticket lost to AIMIM. Mohammad Sarwar Alam defeated him by 23,021 votes. Alam got 81,860 votes while his nearest rival JD(U) turncoat Mujahid Alam got just 58,839 votes.
