AIIMS staffer's 2 kids set afire
PATNA, Aug. 1 -- Two children were allegedly set afire inside their home by unidentified assailants at Nagwan village under Janipur police station of Phulwarisharif, near here, on Thursday, police said.
According to officials, both the deceased were minors (brother and sister) and were students of a private school. Their father, Lallan Kumar Gupta, works as a clerk at election commission office in Patna while mother Shobha Devi works as security guard at Patna AIIMS hospital. The two children were alone in the house at the time of the incident.
Agitated over the incident, a large number of irate people poured on to the streets and blocked Phulwarisharif road, demanding the immediate arrest of the criminals involved in the incident. They also burnt tyres at different points on the roads. In solidarity with the family, the local residents expressed their outrage over the incident.
Lallan Gupta told police that the incident took place between 12.30 pm and 1pm.
"The incident came to light when my wife Shobha Devi, who works as a security guard at Patna AIIMS hospital, came to the house and found the children burnt. She immediately informed me and I rushed home. I found both my children were murdered and later burnt. It occurred when the children came home from their school. They were alone in the house when the tragic incident occurred. We immediately informed the police but they came after an hour of the incident," said Gupta.
He said, "Had the fire broken out, the children would have screamed and tried to save their lives. But none of that happened. No noise came out from the house. The house was locked from inside but open from the outside. This makes clear that two or three criminals entered the house and killed my children," Gupta added.
Locals said it seemed that some unknown criminals entered the house and locked the children in the room and set it on fire. Both the children died on the spot. When locals saw smoke coming out of the house, they informed the children's parents and police.
"Their parents were not at home at the time of the incident," neighbours said.
On being informed, a police team from Janipur police station under SDPO Deepak Kumar rushed to the spot and called the FSL team. The SDPO said that the incident took place at Nagwan village under Janipur police station.
"The police are investigating as to how the incident happened," he added.
City SP (West) Bhanu Pratap Singh said police were investigating the matter from all possible angles.
"It might be possible that some known persons were involved in the incident," said the CSP....
