After RJD, Cong launches campaign, commits Rs.2.5k monthly to women
PATNA, May 22 -- After electoral successes in neighbouring Jharkhand and Telangana, the Congress party on Wednesday launched 'Mai Bahin Maan Yojna' campaign, promising monthly cash incentive of Rs.2,500, to all qualified women if the party and its coalition is voted to power in Bihar.
All India Mahila Congress (AIMC) chief Alka Lamba and Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee (BPCC) president Rajesh Kumar launched the campaign together at Sadaqat Ashram-the party's headquarter. They also released the poster of the campaign.
"All needy women will get Rs.2,500 in their bank account every month once we come to power in Bihar after the state polls. It's Congress party's guarantee," said Lamba, claiming that women in Congress and its allies ruled states like Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh and Jharkhand are being doled out the cash incentive.
The scheme is in tune with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) announcement to launch the cash award. In December 2024, leader of opposition RJD's Tejashwi Prasad Yadav had announced the same scheme.
Moving a step ahead, the BPCC has also released a missed call number 8800023525 under which women will have to register for the scheme. "There are about 5.36 crore women in Bihar, so the Congress leadership is confident that by taking this important scheme of empowering every woman to every home. Along with this, Congress workers and officials will connect women with this scheme and will also tell how the current government of Bihar has deprived women of basic opportunities and facilities," said Kumar.
The BPCC chief said party workers and officials will go to every house and reach out to women and get the forms filled for the scheme. "Mahila Chaupal will also be organised in all the panchayats to make women aware of this scheme," he added....
