Accurate data key for $350-bn economy: Sharma
Jaipur, June 30 -- Accurate and transparent data is crucial for achieving Rajasthan's goal of becoming a $350 billion economy, chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma said on Sunday.
Addressing the 19th state-level Statistics Day, Sharma emphasised that statistics enable the government to meet public expectations and assess progress objectively. "Statistics is a vital tool through which the government can fulfil the aspirations and expectations of the people. Accurate data allows for objective assessment of progress towards set goals and helps take timely corrective actions," he said, while pushing for enhancing the quality, transparency and utility of data to realise the vision of a Developed India and a Developed Rajasthan.
The chief minister added that this year's Statistics Day was celebrated on Sunday on the theme "75 Years of National Sample Survey", which has played a crucial role in shaping the country's policies and programs through its data and findings.
"India is now among the select countries in the world that formulate and implement policies and programs based on comprehensive data. The state government has laid a strong foundation of good governance by making policy decisions driven by data. Whether it is the goal of making Rajasthan a $350 billion economy or the commitment to delivering welfare schemes to eligible beneficiaries in line with the spirit of Antyodaya, the government is making firm, data-backed decisions," he said.
He further said that the state government has taken significant steps to strengthen the statistical system in Rajasthan. "As part of this, 68 new block-level statistical offices and statistical offices in 8 newly created districts are being established. Provisions have also been made to equip these offices with the necessary resources," he said.
Sharma further said that to ensure effective implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, the state government has announced the establishment of an SDG Coordination and Acceleration Centre in the budget.
"Financial approval has already been granted for the creation of posts and the engagement of experts for the Centre," he added....
