Abhaya Brigade for women and girl students
PATNA, Dec. 6 -- Bihar Police will roll out the 'Abhaya Brigade', an initiative aimed specifically at curbing crimes against women and girls, with a focus on eve-teasing and stalking. DGP Vinay Kumar has directed all SSPs and SPs to constitute an Abhaya Brigade at every police station, police said on Friday.
Women-led teams riding scooters will be deployed near schools, colleges and coaching centres across Bihar. The teams will operate in areas vulnerable to harassment and eve-teasing.
Each patrol team will comprise four personnel - a woman sub-inspector leading the unit, a woman constable, and two male constables. The teams will conduct patrols during school and coaching hours. Officials said the decision followed frequent complaints of eve-teasing and harassment in public spaces.
"The number of patrolling teams will be determined after identifying hotspots... A proposal for the purchase of scooters will be submitted to the home department," the DGP said. He said each district would submit a monthly performance and action-taken report to the SP (weaker section), CID.
The brigades will work closely with principals, headmasters, wardens and coaching centre operators to identify hotspots and address student grievances. They will also map isolated routes where incidents are reported....
