9 minors among 13 killed by lightning in 4 Bihar districts
GAYA JI/ Ara/ BETTIAH, May 5 -- As many as 13 people, including nine minors, were killed in Gaya Ji, Bhojpur, Aurangabad and East Champaran districts due to lightning strikes Monday, police said.
In Gaya Ji, three boys - Gautam Kumar, Sandeep Kumar and Dilkesh Kumar of Manjhi Tola, aged between 13 and 15 years -- were playing outside Jogapur village when it happened. "When weather changed and thunder started, the boys ran towards the house, but were struck by lightning. They died on the spot," police said.
In Bhojpur, 55-year-old Airun Khatoon died after being struck by lightning in Guljarpur village under Sahar police station area. She was returning from the market when lightning struck her, said SHO Subodh Kumar.
In East Champaran, five people lost their lives in separate incidents on Monday when lightning strikes accompanied by strong storms lashed the district following heavy rain.
In one incident, a huge tree uprooted and crashed onto an autorickshaw in Rupdih village, under the Mufassil police station area, killing two men and injuring three others, said SHO Kumari Priyanka.
Ramgarhwa's SHO Rajeev Kumar Sah said, "A boy died after lightning struck him at Siswaniya village." Meanwhile, two girls died in Kathwaliya village of Sugauli block after lightning struck them, said SHO Anees Kumar. In Aurangabad, four people including three boys, aged between 8 and 11 years, were killed in lightning strikes in separate cases, police said....
