SUPAUL, June 30 -- A day after at least 30 children fell ill after consuming mid day meal (MDM) in a school at Supaul, another incident took place in the same district, where 80 children were taken ill after consuming MDM in another school. Fortunately all the children undergoing treatment were reported out of danger. The incident took place at the Upgraded Middle School, Shankarpartti of Mahammadganj panchayat under Chhatapur block of the district on Saturday, officials said. Parents and guardians who went frantic soon after the news reached them, rushed to the school and soon the children were taken to the community health centre (CHC) Chhatapur where they are still undergoing treatment. "But all children are out of danger," Dr Navin Kumar Singh treating the children said, adding, "If everything goes normal, all the 80 children will be discharged by today (Sunday) evening." Guardians and parents alleged that the MDM served to children was totally unhygienic and adulterated and soon after eating it, several children fainted and many of them complained of stomachache and nausea. District programme manager (DPM) Mohammad Mahtab Ansari said the matter would be probed and stringent action would be taken against the guilty. On Friday at least 30 children fell sick allegedly after consuming MDM at Primary School Raniganj under Basantpur block of Supaul district. However, an investigation team led by the DPO said the children had consumed wild fruit which led to the complaints of nausea and stomachache.
