8 cops suspended for lapse in duty; 3 held for helping accused
PATNA, July 20 -- The police on Saturday pasted proclamation order on the houses of three named accused, detained three suspects in West Bengal who provided shelter to two of the five shooters and suspended 10 policemen for dereliction of duty in patrolling in connection with the daring murder inside a prominent hospital earlier this week.
City SP (Central) Diksha, who led the SIT in connection with sensational murder of a convicted prisoner who was released on parole, Chandan Kumar Mishra, told HT that Patna police pasted proclamation order at the houses of three named accused--Balwant, Monu and Tausheef Raja alias Badsaah--involved in the murder.
Chandan's father Shrikant Mishra alias Mantu Mishra registered an FIR with the Shastri Nagar police station against three named accused and unknown assailants. The Patna police as well as Bihar STF has not been able to trace him even 48 hours after registration of the case against them. Sleuths of Patna police used loudspeakers to announce to the people that they were still absconding and the police should be informed if anyone got information about their whereabouts. Police passed the proclamation order on the wall of the accused's paternal houses.
Officially, the exercise is referred to as 'munadi' and is mentioned in Section 84 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). Police use it when they are unable to execute an arrest warrant against an accused. The investigation officer of the case made a formal prayer before the Patna court for an order to issue a proclamation order against the accused whom a non-bailable warrant had been issued.
A joint team of Bihar STF and Kolkata police detained three people from New Town in Kolkata on the charges of providing shelter to two of the shooters in Kolkata. STF officials said in Patna that out of five shooters, two of them fled to Kolkata after committing the crime, following which the police started a manhunt for the accused and traced the accused to a town near the West Bengal capital.
While their detention from full public view, captured images by some onlookers, went viral on social media, led to the disappearance of both the shooters. ADG (Operation) Kundan Krishnan said that three suspects have been detained for questioning in connection with providing shelter for the two shooters. Their interrogation is underway and is expected to lead investigators closer to the masterminds behind this high-profile killing. "Raids are on against the shooters and their supporters who provide them shelter and logistic support. All the shooters have been identified," he added.
Kolkata police officers familiar with matter claimed that a few other suspects were also detained by the WB police in the Chandan Mishra murder case. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities believe more arrests and revelations could follow as the STF continues to unearth the conspiracy behind the murder.
Patna police suspended eight policemen of four police stations including Shastri Nagar, Gandhi Maidan, Sachivalaya and Gardanibagh on the charges of dereliction of duties.
Out of eight, five of them including a sub-inspector, two assistant sub-inspector and two constables attached with Shastri Nagar police station suspended for their failure during patrolling duty. The Paras Hospital, where the daring incident took place at the jurisdiction of Shastri Nagar police station. Central range IG Jitendra Rana confirming the development told HT that the police department took hard steps against them over improper and visible policing in the state capital. Top police officials familiar with the matter have revealed that the STF units from Bihar and West Bengal have interrogated notorious criminal Omkar Singh alias Sheru Singh, currently lodged in Purulia Jail.
As per the FIR, Chandan Mishra was admitted to Paras Hospital on July 15, 2025 for fistula and laparoscopic surgery. Dr Pintu Kumar Singh performed the surgery the same day between 1 and 3 pm and initially said Chandan would be discharged on July 16 at 4 pm. However, the discharge was later postponed to July 17. Shrikant Mishra claims that around 7.15 am on July 17, five armed men entered the hospital's private room and shot Chandan dead....
