7 engineers suspended for washing away of embankments in S. Bihar
PATNA, June 22 -- Water resources department (WRD) has ordered suspension of seven engineers, including an executive engineer, on the charges of dereliction of their duties that led to washing away of zamidari bunds at 12 locations of rivers, flowing in the south Bihar region.
On Friday, embankments on Lokain, Bhuthi and other rivers, originating from Jharkhand, were demolished at twelve locations in Nalanda and Jehanabad owing to the flash floods unleashed due to excessive rains.
Talking to media persons, WRD minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary said that departmental actions have been initiated against seven engineers and roles of other senior officers are being examined in the washing away of the embankments.
Meanwhile, WRD has stepped up work to repair the damaged embankments on a war footing. The affected areas are being regularly inspected by officers and necessary guidelines are also being given from a protective point of view, said the minister.
Chaudhary also clarified that the department is adopting a zero tolerance policy in cases of negligence. He said that two additional executive engineers and two assistant engineers have been immediately deputed to the affected sites so that the work can be expedited. Officers of all levels of the department are constantly inspecting the site and taking necessary action in coordination with the district administration, due to which many sensitive areas have been protected....
