Dehradun, June 9 -- A 55-year-old drug peddler was arrested with 135 grams of heroin worth nearly Rs.40 lakh in Rudrapur, police officers aware of the matter said on Sunday, adding that the anti-narcotics special task force carried out the crackdown under the 'Drugs-Free Devbhoomi' campaign. Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Navneet Singh Bhullar said the man was arrested on Saturday evening in coordination with Rudrapur police, as part of a joint drive led by the Kumaon Unit of the STF. "The accused was apprehended near Gandhi Park opposite the Roadways bus station in Rudrapur, where he was found in possession of the illegal narcotic substance", he said. He said the accused has been identified as Dharamveer Gangwar from Rampur district of Uttar Pradesh. "During interrogation, the accused confessed to procuring the heroin from Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh and supplying it in Rudrapur and nearby areas. He also disclosed names of other people involved in the drug trade. We are also verifying his criminal background and investigating further to identify all those involved," he said....
