5 killed in road mishaps in Sitamarh and Gopalganj
BETTIAH, May 5 -- Five people were killed and several others injured in two separate road accidents in Gopalganj and Sitamarhi districts on Sunday, police said.
In the first accident, a one-year-old child, Chetan, and his father Nandkishore Sharma (35), residents of Jahanabad, lost their lives while three women sustained injuries when the car they were travelling in collided with a truck at Dighwa Dubauli under the jurisdiction of Baikunthpur police station in Gopalganj district.
"The bodies have been sent for post-mortem," said Abhishek Kumar, station house officer (SHO) of Baikunthpur police station. He added that the family was returning to their native village in Jahanabad from Delhi when the accident occurred. The condition of the injured women is critical and they have been rushed to Gorakhpur by their relatives for treatment.
In the second accident, three people died and two others were injured when the SUV they were travelling in collided with a truck near Rampurahi Pul on the Muzaffarpur-Sonabarsa NH22 under the jurisdiction of Mahindwara police station in Sitamarhi district.
"The impact of the collision was so severe that three people died on the spot as the vehicle was mangled beyond recognition. The two injured were admitted to Shree Krishna Medical College and Hospital in Muzaffarpur," said Suman Kumar, officer-in-charge of Mahindwara police station, adding that the victims were on their way back to their native village, Pokhara in Sitamarhi district, from Patna when the accident occurred....
