BETTIAH, Dec. 28 -- East Champaran police on Saturday busted a racket involved in stealing fuel from vehicles plying on national highways by arresting five people and selling the adulterated fuel in villages across the district, police said. Raxaul Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Manish Anand said that following a complaint, a police team conducted raids at two locations-Majhariya village under the Ramgarhwa police station area and Raxaul on the Indo-Nepal border-and arrested five persons in connection with the case. "As part of their modus operandi, the accused siphoned fuel from vehicles on national highways. They then mixed it with chemicals to increase the volume and sold it in remote areas, claiming it to be diesel or petrol," the SDPO said.
