5 dead, 20 hurt in road accident
PATNA, June 17 -- Five people, including three women and a seven-year-old boy, lost their lives and 20 others were injured when a pickup van carrying them overturned in Bihar's Saran district on Monday morning. The accident occurred on Chhapra-Hajipur NH-19 near Bajitpur under Nayagaon police station as the vehicle was on way to Hajipur (Vaishali) from Dighwara police station area. According to police, the pickup van, with 25 passengers on board, lost control after one of its tyres burst and it turned turtle in the middle of the road.
Eyewitnesses said the vehicle was at high speed. All the victims were going to Hajipur to deliver corn after loading it. Upon receiving information, the emergency response system Dial 112 reached the spot. The police team with the help of locals, rushed the injured to Sonepur sub-divisional hospital. After primary treatment, they were referred to Sadar Hospital in Hajipur. Two of the injured are said to be critical and have been shifted to Patna for further care. The deceased were identified as Anju Devi (48), Radhika Devi (50), Sonu Kumar (23), Rajlaxmi Kumari (15), and Shivam Kumar (7), all residents of Dighwara in Saran district.
Saran SP Kumar Ashish said, "The incident took place around 6 am on Monday near Nayagaon locality when the vehicle, carrying several passengers, lost control after one of its front tyres burst. Four people died on the spot while a fifth victim died during treatment. The driver of the vehicle also suffered injuries."...
