PATNA, July 7 -- The Bihar police till late on Sunday was clueless about the shocking murder of prominent Patna-based industrialist, Gopal Khemka, in the heart of state capital. Meanwhile, the family of slain businessman has sought police protection as two members of family have been killed in identical manner within seven years. Khemka was shot dead by a scooty-borne unidentified shooter when he was right at the gate of his residence at Twin Towers at Ramgulam Chowk under Gandhi Maidan police station at around 11.30 pm on Friday. His elder son Gunjan Khemka was killed at his Hajipur factory gate in 2018 by an unidentified assailant. Gaurav Khemka, businessman's younger son, wrote in a statement that he sought police protection for his family owing to threat to family. "After the murder of my father, I and my family are scared and so we request the state government and police to provide us security to ensure the safety of the family and also demand the arrest of the criminals involved in the murder of my father, Gopal Khemka," his statement read. Gaurav narrated the incident and said that his father Gopal Khemka had gone to the Bankipore Club at around 8.30pm. The incident occurred when he was returning home at 11. 30 pm when the criminal who was already waiting at the gate shot him in the head. "Soon after hearing sounds of the bullet and being alerted by the building guard, my mother and I rushed to the gate and found that father was lying in a pool of blood. We immediately took him to the hospital where doctors declared him dead." He alleged that they immediately informed the police around midnight but no action was taken by the police. "We took the father's body home at around 2 am after no action was taken by the police. The district magistrate came home and said that we can take the body only after the post-mortem. The post-mortem was conducted around 6 am after which the body was brought home," said Gaurav. On the other hand, Patna police said that they detained several suspected persons into custody for interrogation in search of a breakthrough to crack the case. The police also claimed to have got a breakthrough to proceed ahead in he investigation, but they refused to disclose the information as it might hamper the ongoing probe amid police raid raids to nab convicts and their accomplices, said a police officer. Three jail wardens of Beur jail were suspended on Sunday and a show cause notice issued to the jail officers after recovery of three cell phones and prohibited items from the jail premises during a raid on Saturday. IG, Patna Jitendra Rana said, "Several SIT teams along with full cooperation of STF are raiding at various locations and several persons have been taken into custody for interrogation and based on their statements, raids are being conducted. The SSP, Patna, K Sharma is closely monitoring the case." The IG said that it is clear that it was a contract killing case. "Regarding complaints about police delaying arrival on the spot at the fateful night, I have asked the SSP to investigate the allegations and submitted the report. The action will be taken on the basis of the SSP report. The police are investigating the matter from all possible angles as financial dispute, business rivalry, land dispute as his son was previously killed due to land dispute." "Therefore, any kind of dispute could be involved in this case, which is currently under investigation and being looked into thoroughly. It's hoped that the culprits will be apprehended very soon," said the IG. Meanwhile, businessman Gopal Khemka's last rites ere performed at Gulbi Ghat in Patna city after the arrival of his daughter, Garima Khemka, from Scotland. A large number of relatives, workers, administrative officials, leaders of political parties and others are also reaching the deceased businessman's house and attending the last rites....
