AURANGABAD, June 11 -- Aurangabad police rescued 44 animals of the cow family and recovered animal flesh during a joint raid with local administration and Animal Cruelty Prevention Committee on a private orchard in Pirahi Bagh locality of Daudnagar in Aurangabad district on Monday night. Police also seized two pick-up vans used in transporting the animals and animal flesh from the place. Sample of the flesh had been taken and was sent to the forensic science laboratory for testing. Rest of the flesh was destroyed on the spot, sub-divisional police officer (SDPO), Daudnagar, Kumar Rishiraj said. After being informed by Gau Raksha Dal and some social organisations about running of an illegal butchery and slaughter of animals in the private orchard of Bablu Qureshi alias Makhdoom Shahabuddin situated on Daudnagar-Barun road, a team of administrative and animal husbandry officials under the sub-divisional magistrate Amit Ranjan and the SDPO conducted the raid. The people involved in the illegal business fled after seeing the team by taking advantage of darkness. Police have registered a case under Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and other concerned provisions against five persons including the owner of the garden and owners and drivers of the seized vehicles. Police were waiting for the FSL report before taking further action, the SDPO said. The rescued animals were handed over to Gau Gyan Foundation at Devkund for their safekeep....
