At that moment, a leopard suddenly attacked him and dragged him away," said Jeevan Chandra Upreti, ranger of Khatima forest range under Terai East forest division in US Nagar. "On hearing his cries, his companion ran towards to help, the leopard left him and fled to the sugarcane field. The farmer Jaswant Singh took him to the government hospital in Khatima but the doctors declared him dead," he said. "It might have come from the Pilibhit forest. After surveying the spot, we believe that the leopard was a female with her cubs. Anticipating danger, it attacked Jitendra. We have advised farmers and labourers of the village not to venture alone to avert any untoward incident," the ranger said. He further said that after a post mortem examination, the body has been handed over to his relatives. The process of providing ex-gratia to the bereaved family is currently underway....
