Rudrapur, May 5 -- A four-year-old boy was killed by a leopard in Bageshwar district on Saturday evening, forest officials aware of the matter said on Sunday, adding that three cages have been installed to capture the big cat. The incident took place around 8.30pm in Malla Kafada village under the Kanda block when the child, Naitik, stepped out of his house with his mother, Neelam (33), to relieve himself. Suddenly, the leopard, which was waiting near the courtyard, pounced on the child and dragged him away into the dark, forest officials added. Hearing Neelam's screams, villagers and relatives rushed to the spot. After a search, they found the leopard with the child's body in a nearby gorge. Startled by the noises made by the villager, the leopard abandoned the body and disappeared into the forest. By then, Naitik succumbed to fatal neck injuries, they added. Forest ranger Pradeep Kandpal of the Dharamghar range said that the forest team responded swiftly after being alerted by village head Jyoti Bora. "Three cages have been installed to capture the leopard, but further operations will begin after obtaining clearance from the higher authorities," he said. Kandpal added that patrolling has been intensified in the area. HTC...
