KATIHAR, Aug. 17 -- About 350 metric tons of rice has allegedly gone missing from a government godown of the State Food Corporation (SFC) in Bihar's Katihar district. Two persons, including a data entry operator, have been arrested, and a probe is underway to assess the extent of the loss. The missing stock came to light during a raid led by Katihar Sadar SDM Alok Chandra Choudhary at the SFC godown in Tingachhia locality. Initially, around 350 MT of rice was found missing out of 2,950 MT. The godown has a capacity of 5,000 MT. "Acting on complaints, we carried out a raid at the godown and unearthed serious irregularities," the SDM said. He added that several rice bags were found stashed with bricks and stones. The raid also led to the recovery of Rs.3 lakh from the possession of Rishi Kumar, the driver of the Assistant Godown Manager (AGM). Both Rishi Kumar and data entry operator Dharmendra Kumar Yadav were handed over to the town police. Officials said AGM, responsible for overseeing godown operations and ensuring smooth functioning of the PDS, was absent during the raid along with the marketing officer. Sources claimed the irregularities point to a larger scam. "This is just the beginning. A thorough probe may reveal a massive racket," one of them said....
