34 transgenders get through constable recruitment exams
PATNA, Sept. 27 -- The results of the Bihar Police Constable Recruitment Examination were declared on Friday, with 99,690 candidates - five times the number of available posts - qualifying for the next stage of the process. Among them are 36,834 women, 34 transgender candidates, 867 home guard aspirants, and 622 kin of freedom fighters.
These candidates will now appear for document verification and the Physical Efficiency Test (PET) scheduled for December.
There are already 11 transgenders in the Bihar Police, with three of them being sub-inspectors and eight of them are undergoing constable training.
Conducted under the guidance of chief minister Nitish Kumar, the recruitment was overseen by the Central Selection Board of Constables (CSBC) chairman Jitendra Kumar, who said that unprecedented measures were taken to ensure transparency and fairness.
A total of 16.73 lakh valid applications were received for 19,838 constable posts in various wings of the Bihar Police.
The written test was held in six phases across 627 centres between July and August, with 13.30 lakh candidates appearing, while 71 were found unfit for various reasons. "The list of eligible candidates for document verification and PET has been uploaded on the Board's official website. Candidates can check their results using their registration or roll number," said the CSBC chairman, adding that those who clear the PET in December will move to the final stage of selection.
The Board received 17,06,628 online applications, of which 16,73,586 were found valid after scrutiny. During the process, 10,947 applications were incomplete, 20,940 were cancelled by candidates themselves, and 1,155 were rejected on other grounds. In an earlier recruitment drive, the CSBC had advertised 21,391 posts, for which 18 lakh candidates applied.
Of these, around 12 lakh appeared for the written test, with 1,07,078 qualifying, and ultimately 86,539 - including 32,569 women and 10 transgender candidates - appearing for the PET....
