PATNA, July 15 -- At least 30 people were arrested by Nawada police for attacking a police team late on Sunday, police said. An unruly crowd on Sunday night had attacked Nawada police team when they went to Chhoti Talab locality under Pakribarama police station to manage a scuffle between two groups over a dispute of drainage system. Woman cops were also targeted in the incident, police said. The attackers assaulted the police with sticks and stones, and they also pelted stones, police added. They also threw chilli powder in the eyes of the policemen to free some persons detained by the police. The cops' uniforms were also ripped off. According to Nawada SP Abhinav Dheeman, police got information that two groups were indulging in a brick batting over an old dispute, resulting in head injury to one Farhana Khatoon. A team of Dial 112 rushed to the spot where a mob pelted stones on the police, damaged their vehicle, threw chilli powder and chemicals used for ripening fruits. Woman constable Jyada Praveen was rushed to the Sadar hospital after an eye injury. Five police personnel, including the driver and an ASI were injured in the manhandling. Following the attack, Nawada Police on Monday arrested 30 people and forwarded them to judicial custody. "Other attackers are being identified, and strict action would be taken against them soon," said Dheeman, adding police had registered two FIRs including one from police side and another on the statement of Farhana Khatoon under Pakribarama PS against 40 named and unknown persons....
