3 test Covid +ve, U'khand steps up measures
Dehradun, May 26 -- With the tourist season peaking and the Char Dham yatra in progress, the Uttarakhand health department has stepped up surveillance and is closely monitoring the situation after three people tested positive for Covid-19 in the state, officials said on Sunday.
R Rajesh Kumar, health secretary of Uttarakhand, said, "Three people have tested positive in the state. None of them are residents of Uttarakhand. They were found positive upon arrival. It suggests that we have a robust system in place. We are exercising surveillance and monitoring the situation closely, given the fact that a large number of people are visiting the state for the Char Dham yatra."
He added that all district magistrates (DMs) have been directed to maintain surveillance, following guidelines from the Union health ministry.
According to Kumar, one of the three Covid-positive individuals is a resident doctor at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Rishikesh, and is currently in isolation. "One of three patients has already left the state. The other two are undergoing treatment, and their condition is stable. There is no cause for concern," he said.
Kumar clarified, "While we are maintaining surveillance, no specific advisories have been issued yet for the Char Dham yatra or other tourist destinations."
Earlier this week, after an increase in Covid cases in many states of the country, the state the state government instructed officials concerned to increase surveillance and chief medical officers in each district to remain vigilant regarding Covid-19. The Char Dham yatra began on April 30 with the opening of the Gangotri and Yamunotri temples, followed by Kedarnath on May 2 and Badrinath on May 4....
