PATNA, Jan. 31 -- Three people, including two women, were shot dead, while a youth was injured in separate incidents in Patna and Vaishali, police said on Friday. Two of the deaths were allegedly linked to a dispute over "merely two inches of land". In one incident, which occurred at Rasulpur village under Fatuha police station limits at around 7.30 am, a man allegedly opened indiscriminate fire during a land dispute reportedly over "two inches of land". In the firing, his aunt, cousin and a passerby sustained bullet injuries. The woman, identified as Rajmantri Devi, and the passerby, Deo Sagar Singh, died, while Rajmantri's son Rajan Kumar (22) was undergoing treatment at the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH). Police said Rajmantri Devi died on the spot, while Deo Sagar succumbed to his injuries on the way to PMCH. On receiving information, rural superintendent of police (SP) Kundan Kumar, Fatuha sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) and forensic experts rushed to the spot and carried out investigations. Police said the dispute between siblings Shravan Prasad and Rajkumar Prasad had been going on for a long time. Jitendra Kumar, son of Shravan Prasad and an eyewitness, said the dispute between his father and uncle Rajkumar Prasad was over "two inches of land". "In the morning, when the two were discussing the issue, it turned into an argument. My cousin Shivam Kumar then arrived with a gun and opened fire, killing my mother," he alleged. The rural SP said two country-made pistols, a sword and a motorcycle had been recovered from the house of the absconding accused. A team has been constituted under the leadership of DSP-1 Awadhesh Kumar, and raids are on to arrest the accused. Additional police forces have been deployed in Rasulpur amid heightened tension. In another incident, Vaishali police said a 25-year-old woman, Guriya Devi, died under mysterious circumstances after her bullet-riddled body was found outside her house in the Chauhatta locality under Town police station area late on Thursday night. Her husband, Arjun Paswan, alleged that she was shot dead by a neighbour over a land dispute. However, Vaishali SP Vikram Sihag told HT that the case was suspicious and was being investigated from all angles. "Police received information around 12.30 am that a married woman had been admitted to a government hospital with a gunshot injury. A team immediately reached the hospital and found that she had already been declared dead. Her husband claimed she was shot by a neighbour outside their house around 11.30pm," an official said. After the allegation, police raided the neighbour's house and found all the suspects present and sleeping inside. Forensic experts have collected evidence from the spot. The Vaishali SP said the victim's husband was giving conflicting statements regarding the sequence of events and the investigation was ongoing. Police said Arjun Paswan works as a private driver for a judicial officer, while his sister-in-law is a political activist....
