3 killed and 4 injured as SUV rams into road divider in Darbhanga
Darbhanga, Nov. 24 -- Three people died in a road mishap in Darbhanga early Sunday morning, police said.
The deceased were identified as Umesh Kumar, Siyaram Yadav and the driver, police added.
The accident occurred near Delhi More on National Highway-27 under University police station limits after a speeding Scorpio lost control and rammed into the road divider.
According to eyewitnesses, the SUV was travelling at no less than 100 kmph when the driver failed to control the vehicle. The impact was so severe that the vehicle bounced from one lane to the other, causing widespread panic among early morning commuters.
Seven people were on board, all residents of Rai Bihir village under Shankarpur police station in Madhepura district. They were returning home after seeking medical treatment at a hospital in Patna, police said. Four others sustained injuries, two of them critically.
On receiving information, local police rushed to the site. A crane was deployed to remove the mangled vehicle from the highway, while villagers assisted in pulling out the victims.
The injured were taken to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment.
Sub-Inspector Suryanarayan Singh of the highway patrol said all seven occupants were found in severely injured condition when the team reached the spot. Doctors later declared three of them dead.
The bodies were later sent to Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) for postmortem.
Police have launched a probe into the accident....
