3 engineering students killed in accident in Lakhisarai: Cops
PATNA, Aug. 1 -- Three engineering students died and three others were critically injured after the auto-rickshaw they were travelling in was hit by a truck in Lakhisarai district on Thursday morning, police said.
The group was on its way to Lakhisarai railway station to catch a train when the accident occurred. The vehicle was badly damaged in the mishap.
The incident took place on the Lakhisarai-Jamui state highway near Manjhuwe village under Tetarhat police station limits. All six students belonged to Shivsona Engineering College.
The deceased have been identified as Pankaj Kumar Shah and Saroj Kumar Pandit, both from Samastipur district, and Sahil Kumar from Nalanda district. All three, aged between 19 and 22 years, died on the spot.
The injured - Ankit Gupta, Ajit Yadav, and Raushan Kumar - were rescued by locals and taken to a nearby primary health centre. Doctors later referred Ankit and Ajit to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) for advanced treatment, while Raoushan is undergoing treatment at Sadar Hospital.
Chief minister Nitish Kumar expressed grief over the incident and directed officials to ensure proper medical care for the injured.
The auto-rickshaw driver fled the scene, abandoning the damaged vehicle, which was later removed with the help of a crane, said Mrityunjay Kumar, Station House Officer (SHO) of Tetarhat police station.
Upon receiving information, Vimlesh Kumar, principal of Shivsona Engineering College, along with several students, rushed to the spot. The families of the deceased and injured students were informed....
