3,886-kg opium worth Rs.2.5-crore seized
AURANGABAD, April 4 -- In a huge recovery of narcotics, prohibition officials seized over 3,886 kilograms of Opium Doda worth Rs.2.5 crore from a Haryana registration container in Aurangabad district on Friday. Doda is a by-product of opium, officials said on Friday.
Prohibition Superintendent, Aurangabad, Manoj Kumar Rai, said following an intelligence input regarding arrival of a big consignment of narcotics from Jharkhand through Erka Check Post, prohibition department officer Subham Kumari Suman was alerted.
Prohibition team cordoned the point on Daltonganj-Aurangabad Road (NH-139), falling under Amba police station area of Aurangabad and stopped the suspected container (HR 63C 1805). Upon searching, Doda kept in 150 sacks weighing 3,886.6 kilogram, worth Rs.2.5 crore estimated value in black markets, was recovered and seized.
The driver, identified as Madan Lal son of Narayan Lal, a resident of Nagaur in Rajasthan, was arrested. During interrogations, he revealed that the narcotics consignment was loaded near Jharkhand capital Ranchi on Thursday and was destined for Nagaur in Rajasthan.
The Prohibition Superintendent said that a case under provisions of Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substance Act had been registered and the officials were taking further actions following the important information provided by the driver during interrogation. Officials were working to identify and track down the network involved in large-scale interstate narcotics trafficking, as well as the smugglers involved in it....
