25 get injuries in road mishap in Champaran
BETTIAH, Sept. 4 -- At least 25 passengers were injured, three of them seriously, when a bus bound for Sitamarhi from Jaipur in Rajasthan veered off the road and overturned in East Champaran district on Wednesday afternoon, police said.
Kotwa's Station House Officer (SHO) in East Champaran district, Pratyush Kumar Vicky said the incident occurred when the driver of the bus, carrying 50-odd passengers was on way to Sitamarhi from Jaipur in Rajasthan, lost control over the vehicle at Rajapur Chowk on NH-27 near Kotwa under the jurisdiction of his police station at around 1pm on Wednesday.
Following the accident, locals rushed to the site and helped the occupants, including women and children, to come out from the bus.
"Many passengers were trapped in the bus at the time of accident," said a local.
Police later reached the place of accident and rushed the injured passenger to the public health centre (PHC) with the help of local people and 112 police at Kotwa in East Champaran.
"While 25 passengers were taken to the public health centre (PHC), 22 were later referred to sadar hospital at Motihari," said the SHO, adding that some left for their destination with their relatives who arrived after hearing of the incident.
When contacted, Dr. Safi Imam, a doctor attached with Sadar hospital in Motihari, said the condition of one of the passengers brought here is quite critical.
"With his hand badly crushed and injuries on his head, he has been referred to SKMCH at Muzaffarpur. The condition of two others is also serious, while others have been hospitalised with injuries on the shoulder, head and other parts," said Dr. Imam, adding that in total 22 passengers injured in the accident were brought here for treatment."
