PATNA, Oct. 29 -- At least 24 people, including eight teenagers, drowned during Chhath Puja celebrations across Bihar on Monday and Tuesday, officials said. Nine people drowned in Khagaria, six in Nalanda, and four each in Patna and Bhagalpur districts. Khagaria reported one of the worst tragedies of this year's Chhath. As per reports from Khagaria, nine people drowned at different locations. While four bodies have been recovered, five remain missing. The deceased include Nandini Kumari (8), Lakshman Kumar of Beldaur police station, and Subrat Raj of Gogri, who drowned in separate incidents on Monday. During the morning offering at Budhwa Ghat on the Bagmati River under Morakahi police station limits, three boys - Golu Kumar (13) of Mardar-Nawatoliya, Dilkhush Kumar (15), and Chhotu Kumar (16) - slipped into deep water and drowned. "The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has been called to aid in the search," said Khagaria Circle Officer (CO) Puneet Kaushal.
