PATNA, May 16 -- BN College student Sujit Pandey (22) succumbed to his injuries at a private hospital on Thursday. Sujit, a second semester student of history, was injured after an explosion caused part of the ceiling to collapse resulting in a fatal head injury as anti-social elements exploded two bombs on the college campus on May 13. The news of the death of Sujit spread like wildfire, the college was shut down, and students and officials rushed to the hospital. The mood on campus remained tense, with students gathering in protest and demanding arrest of the criminals involved in the incident. Some students were surprised as to why the seriously injured student was not given the best possible treatment at AIIMS or IGIMS in Patna and was allowed to be shifted from state-of-the-art PMCH to Medanta Hospital and from there, against medical advice, to Rohtas. "The patient was brain dead and he was taken to his native place against medical advice, as there was virtually no chance of revival," said a senior official. "The post mortem can be done anywhere. There is no compulsion for it to be done in Patna. The family left Patna for his native village in Rohtas where his post-mortem can be done," said Purbahore police station SHO Abdul Halim. He said the police were trying to identify the anti-social elements involved in the crime. Meanwhile, the students blocked the Ashok Rajpath against the incident. "The bomb explosion in a Patna University college speaks volumes about the situation there. He was shifted to multi-speciality Medanta Hospital and then under pressure, his family was asked to shift him. We have information that the boy died in Patna itself and apprehending big trouble due to students' agitation he was shifted from Patna," they said. The angry students said PU and BN College administration must be held accountable for easy access of anti-socials on the campus of university and colleges, as the horrific incident in which a student died was neither the first nor would be the last. Sanjit Pandey, a close relative, said Sujit was immediately taken to Patna Medical College and Hospital and later moved to Medanta Hospital. Despite efforts by medical staff, his condition deteriorated, and he succumbed to his injuries.
