BETTIAH, Jan. 11 -- The forest department booked at least 20 people, along with several unidentified individuals, for allegedly felling green trees along the Don Canal in a village in Bihar's West Champaran district on Saturday. According to forest officials, a team from the local forest range conducted an inspection after receiving information about over one dozen cutting of trees in the area during ongoing cleaning work of the canal undertaken at Bhawal village under Ramnagar police station area of West Champaran. "During the spot verification, we found multiple freshly felled trees, stump marks, and signs indicating that the wood had been removed. Therefore, a case has been registered against 20 named and other unknown individuals," said Vijay Prasad, range officer, Ramnagar.
