2 teachers suspended, arrested after 'banned meat' found in school
SASARAM, April 23 -- Two female teachers of an Upgraded Urdu Middle School in Rohtas district were arrested and five of them, including the headmaster, were suspended after "prohibited meat" was allegedly recovered from the school at Ramudih village under the jurisdiction of Rajpur police station in Rohtas district on Wednesday, officials said.
Two accused female teachers were later arrested, the police said, and the sample of meat was sent to the forensic lab for further investigation.
The matter came to light after students informed their guardians that the teachers had brought the meat in the school.
Angry villagers later reached the school alleging that the teachers were in the habit of cooking prohibited meat in the school kitchen, serving it to children, thereby corrupting their religious faith. After alerting the administration and the police, the villagers surrounded the school. Bikramganj Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Prabhat Kumar and the Sub-Divisional Police Officer SDPO Sindhu Shekhar Singh rushed to the place with police force. The officials recovered banned meat, kept in three polythene bags inside an almirah. Five teachers and a cook were rescued from the mob and taken to the Rajpur police station, police said.
Meanwhile, the recovery of meat had triggered outrage and tension in the area and people from neighbouring villages also arrived on the scene. In view of the gravity of the situation, the District Magistrate (DM) Udita Singh and the superintendent of police (SP) Raushan Kumar also reached the spot, and the situation was brought under control.
The Block Education Officer (BEO), Rajpur, has registered a case under Section 299 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita - pertaining to deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings - against acting headmaster Akhtar Ali and teachers....
