PATNA, Nov. 25 -- State capital Patna witnessed back to back murders on Monday evening barely a couple of days after the swearing in of the new government. An angry mob lynched two unidentified anti-socials fleeing after allegedly murdering a landlord in Gopalpur police station locality, 15-km south of the state capital without waiting for the police to act. The incident took place at Domanchak village, when the criminals were trying to flee after the murder of Asharfi Rai (70), who was sitting outside of the house. Police said that the incident took place at around 5.30pm and the reason behind the incident was said to be a land related dispute between Asharfi and someone. Two unidentified assailants arrived on a motorcycle and shot him six times. After the murder both attempted to flee from the spot. A crowd chased them for about 500 meters from the murder scene, caught them and thrashed them mercilessly. On getting information, a police team led by a DSP rank official rushed to the spot while Asharfi and two suspects were rushed to the hospital where doctors declared them dead upon arrival. More than 10 empty shells were found from the spot. Police are currently working to identify the deceased murder suspects. Preliminary investigations suggest that this murder is linked to a land dispute worth crores of rupees. The police are examining the case from all angles. Police suspect that some rival of the victim hired contract killers to eliminate him. Most of the male members of the village hid in their relatives/friends house due to fear of police action. Villagers informed them that they arrived at the scene after hearing gunshots. They saw some people fleeing after killing Asharfi. The two suspects indiscriminately fired on the crowd, but no one was injured. Police further stated that the bodies of both the criminals were found a gap of 20 feet, suggesting that the crowd caught and beat them separately. There are multiple injury marks on the bodies, with their heads crushed and several cuts on their arms and legs. There are signs of attacks with spears and sickles. Following the triple murder, a heavy contingent of police force has been deployed in the village. Interrogations of villagers are underway, and the murder spot is also being investigated. The FSL team also rushed to the spot and collected samples like blood soaked soil, bricks, stones and sharp edge weapons. The family of the victim is also being questioned about any enemies he may have had. "The victim was sitting outside his home. Two assailants arrived and shot him before fleeing. The crowd surrounded the criminals and beat them. Both died at the spot. Asharfi was taken to the hospital, but the doctor declared him dead. We have also obtained CCTV footage, which we are examining. It is still early in the investigation, and it is not possible to clearly state why the incident occurred. The investigation is ongoing," said City SP (East) Parichay Kumar. Police have registered murder case against unidentified persons in connection with the lynching. "Further probe in the matter is on and arrests would be made after identifying people involved in the incident of both the accused," Kumar added....
