PURNIA, June 13 -- A 62-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death and his son critically injured when the two were trying to escape after allegedly shooting a man dead during a land-related dispute in Bihar's Purnia district on Wednesday evening. The injured is currently undergoing treatment at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Purnia. The deceased have been identified as 35-year-old Mohd Saifuddin and 62-year-old Mohd Shahar Ali. Mohd Nursalim (30), son of Shahar Ali, sustained serious injuries in the mob assault. All three were residents of Bhareli village under Jalalgarh police station limits, police said. According to police, there was a long-standing dispute over 15 decimals of homestead land between Saifuddin and Shahar Ali. On Wednesday evening, a heated verbal exchange broke out between the two parties, which soon escalated into indiscriminate firing from both sides. "In the firing, a bullet hit Saifuddin, killing him on the spot.
