2 jawans killed in encounter with Maoists in Jharkhand
RANCHI, Sept. 5 -- Two security personnel were killed and another was grievously injured in an exchange of fire with suspected members of the banned Tritiya Sammelan Prastuti Committee (TSPC), a splinter group of the CPI (Maoist), in Kedal forest area in Palamau district of Jharkhand on Thursday, officials said.
According to officials, the encounter between security forces and members of the proscribed TSPC outfit broke out at around 12.30 am when the police party led by ASP (operations) Rakesh Singh started a search operation in the area on specific input about the presence of a top commander of the outfit.
"An operation was initiated by Palamau police on information that members of the banned outfit could be in the village and create some trouble. When the team reached there, the ultras got a clue of it, and two security personnel were killed in the exchange of fire. Another was injured in the gunfight, who is out of danger," said Naushad Alam, DIG, Palamau.
The DIG identified the deceased as constables Santan Mehta and Sunil Ram, whose bodies were later taken to the Palamau police line....
