Haridwar, Oct. 25 -- Two people have been arrested in connection with the murder of a 25-year-old woman in Haridwar whose charred body was found on Haridwar-Najibabad highway on October 18, a senior police officer said on Friday. According to police, the deceased, identified as Seema Khatun, a resident of Uddham Singh Nagar, was in a relationship with a man, identified as Salman Khan (30), also from Kashipur in the same district. The police officer said, Salman and Seema had an heated argument inside a truck container, during which the former murdered her and later set her body on fire with the help of an accomplice, Mehroonisa (53), to destroy evidence. Initially, the identification of the deceased was difficult due to lack of documents on the crime scene near Gazivali village, the police said, they examined CCTV footage of the vehicles that passed the highway on the day of the crime. During the CCTV scanning, a white container truck was spotted moving suspiciously near the area and was traced to US Nagar, police said. Police said, during investigation, they found that Mehroonisa was the last person spotted with the deceased. Mehroonisa was arrested from Kashipur, US Nagar on October 22. She broke down during interrogation and confessed that she assisted Salman in the crime. Police officials said Mehroonisa bore a personal grudge against Seema, who had earlier tipped off police about her son's involvement in drug peddling. SP (crime), Haridwar, Jitendra Mehra said, "On October 17, Seema and Salman were travelling in the truck when a quarrel broke out. Salman strangled her to death and, with Mehroonisa's help, took the body to a secluded plot near Gazivali. They poured diesel over the body and set it on fire to prevent identification."
