PATNA, June 10 -- Three persons, including two government officials-- a woman BDO and revenue clerk-- were caught taking bribe by the vigilance investigation bureau (VIB) officials in separate cases on Monday. With these two traps, the total number of government officials caught red-handed by VIB this year has risen to 29, with a cumulative bribe recovery amounting to over Rs.13.21 lakh. In the first case a woman BDO of Lalganj in Vaishali district Neelam Kumari and her driver Awinash Kumar were caught while accepting a bribe of Rs.20,000 from a complaint. The payment was allegedly demanded for facilitating the second and third installment of PM Aawas Yojna. The trap was executed by the VIB's core team after extensive planning, following a complaint by one Mithlesh Kumar of Kartaha village on May 28. In the second trap, Girish Tiwari, revenue clerk of Naviganj block in Siwan district was caught taking a bribe of Rs.35,000 from complainant Ajit Kumar Singh of Basantpur police outpost to solve his property related dispute. He was caught as he received the bribe four kms from the block office and preliminary probe suggests this may not have been an isolated case.
