2 arrested with huge quantity of Indian, Nepali currency notes
BETTIAH, May 1 -- A joint team of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and Jitna police on Thursday arrested two individuals, including a Nepali citizen, from an India-Nepal border area in East Champaran district, claiming to have busted an illegal cross-border currency exchange racket.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the team intercepted the accused at Agarwa village under the Jitna police station limits after they allegedly entered Indian territory from across the border on Thursday morning.
During a search operation, officials recovered Nepali currency worth Rs.10.96 lakh, suspected to be linked to an illegal exchange network, along with Indian currency amounting to Rs.71,410. "Preliminary probe revealed that both the accused were involved in unauthorised trading and circulation of Indian and Nepali currencies across the porous border. They were charging a hefty commission in Indian currency in exchange for Nepali notes," said Sudhir Kumar, Station House Officer (SHO) of Jitna police station....
