RANCHI, Oct. 1 -- The Hemant Soren goverment on Tuesday named the 1993-batch IAS officer Avinash Kumar as the next chief secretary of the state, people aware of the development said. Kumar, an IAS officer of the Jharkhand cadre, would take over from outgoing chief secretary Alka Tiwari, who retired from the coveted service on Tuesday. Later, while talking to the media, CM Soren said that the government has appointed outgoing chief secretary as the new State Election Commissioner of Jharkhand. Kumar currently was the additional chief secretary to chief minister Hemant Soren, besides being the head of some key departments in the state. "Avinash Kumar has been appointed chief secretary of the state. Besides holding the top post, he would also continue in his role as ACS to the chief minister till further orders, besides being the resident commissioner of Jharkhand Bhawan in New Delhi," an official said. Apart from being ACS to the chief minister, Kumar also held the charge of ACS (Power) and development commissioner. As per the new notification issued by the department of personnel on Tuesday, while ACS (Health) has been named the next development commissioner, the government is yet to name the next power secretary after elevation of Avinash Kumar as chief secretary, officials said.
