19-year-old woman Maoist surrenders in Rourkela
Jamshedpur, March 31 -- A 19-year-old female Maoist, allegedly involved in the January 20-21 encounter in which 17 CPI (Maoist) extremists were neutralised in Saranda Forests, surrendered before the Rourkela police on Monday, police said on Monday.
"Mogri Honhaga, present during the January 20-21 encounter, surrendered today inspired by the Odisha government's surrender policy under which we are providing all possible help and assistance along with rehabilitation. We appeal to other remaining Maoists to surrender and join the mainstream of the society," Brijesh Kumar Roy, Rourkela deputy inspector general (DIG), told the media on Monday.
"We are being subjected to extreme mental and sexual exploitation within the organisation, which has now become unbearable. Inspired by the Odisha government's surrender policy, I secretly contacted the police and surrendered today," Mogri Honhaga told the media during the surrender ceremony at Rourkela.
Mogri Honhaga hailed from Marangponga under the Chotanagra police station (PS) limits inside Saranda Forests in West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand.
"She joined the banned LWE outfit CPI (Maoist) after coming in contact with the slain Maoists commander Lalchand Hembram alias Anmol alias Sushant. Afterwards, she became active in Saranda Forests and mostly involved in recruiting new cadres and training them," a police officer said.
She also admitted that she was present during the fierce encounter in Kumdih jungles inside Saranda on January 20-21 in which 17 Maoists, including central committee member (CCM) Patiram Majhi alias Anal-da, were gunned down. She managed to flee with other surviving Naxals.
Anal-da carried a bounty of Rs.2.35 crore while 13 other slain hardcore Naxals carried cumulative bounty of Rs.2.14 crore....
