PATNA, May 27 -- In a decisive move following a daylight firing incident in the state capital, the Patna police has suspended 14 cops including five assistant sub inspectors and nine constables so far. Patna senior superintendent of police (SSP) Avakash Kumar issued show cause notices to the SHOs of Digha, Gandhi Maidan and Pirbahore police stations on charges of disobeying SSP's instructions flashed. This action comes after the SSP had indicated that strict measures would be implemented. The SSP himself alerted the Patna police through wireless communication that two vehicles including a Thar jeep and Scorpio borne criminals involved in firing were fleeing from the state capital routes. Despite SSP's wireless communication not one cop tried to comply with his orders. This disciplinary action has sent ripples through the Bihar police department. Avakash Kumar on Monday hinted at the possibility of more police officers facing consequences as the investigation progresses. "Police detain the son of a police association bearer and later released him from police station. At least four culprits have been identified and they will be nabbed shortly. A Thar vehicle has been traced but its role was not found in the incident," said the SSP, adding that the contract of four SAP drivers of the police vehicles was also terminated after they failed to intercept a four-wheeler, which passed through localities like Atala Path, Digha, Gandhi Maidan and Pirbahor, despite an alert being sounded on the wireless system.
