Dehradun, May 8 -- After India hit nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) under "Operation Sindoor", Dehradun police on Wednesday sounded a high alert across the district and conducted a large-scale verification in both urban and rural areas "to search for suspects". The police teams, along with paramilitary forces, conducted verification of outsiders and detained 115 "suspicious" people for questioning, said a press release from the Dehradun police. During the campaign, the police verified the credentials of over 2,000 people and upon finding irregularities, 316 people were booked under Section 83 of the Police Act and were slapped a total fine of Rs.31.60 lakh. Under Section 81 of the Police Act, action was taken against 135 people, who were fined a total of Rs.33,750, police said. Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said, "Following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam and in view of Operation Sindoor launched by the Indian Army in Pakistan on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday, we sounded a high alert across the district." "Starting early in the morning, various teams of the district, in coordination with paramilitary forces, conducted large-scale verification across urban and rural areas of the district to search for suspicious individuals. During this operation, police carried out verification of 2,117 outsiders residing in different police station jurisdictions," he said. The SSP added, "During the campaign, 316 individuals were found in violation of regulations like failure to verify tenants and were booked under Section 83 of the Police Act. A fine of Rs.31.60 lakh was collected from them. Additionally, 115 suspects were brought to the police station for questioning and physical verification. They didn't have the valid identity credentials. They were allowed to go later with a warning to get the necessary identity credentials." "An action was taken under Section 81 of the Police Act against 135 individuals, from whom we collected a fine of Rs.33,750," he added. Meanwhile, Dehradun police conducted a security drill of strategically important establishments and places to check emergency preparedness.
