11 booked for sharing forged obscene video to defame woman
Dehradun, Nov. 1 -- A case has been registered against 11 people, including six minors, for allegedly circulating a forged obscene video, passing it off as another woman's to defame her, police in Rudraprayag said on Friday.
A first information report (FIR) was registered on October 29 after the woman's father filed a complaint. According to police, an obscene video, originating in Hyderabad, had been uploaded on several adult websites in 2023 and was allegedly misused by the accused who circulated the video claiming that the complainant's daughter was visible in it.
The case was registered at Augustmuni police station under sections 79 (word, gesture or act intended to insult modesty of a woman) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 67A (punishment for publishing or transmitting of material containing sexually explicit act, etc) of the IT Act.
Rudraprayag superintendent of police Akshay Prahlad Konde said, "We received a complaint at the Augustmuni police station from the woman's father, alleging that his daughter was being defamed through an obscene video even though the video was not of her." "We swiftly registered an FIR at the Augustmuni police station. The investigation revealed that the pornographic clip had been uploaded on several adult websites in 2023 and originated from Hyderabad. Using advanced verification tools, including Yandex, we confirmed that the video was being misused locally with malicious intent to malign the woman's reputation," he said....
