10 rescued as vehicle gets swept away in flashflood in Haldwani
Haldwani, July 22 -- Ten people were rescued after the vehicle they were travelling in was swept away by a sudden flashflood in Haldwani, Nainital, in the early hours of Monday, officers aware of the matter said on Monday.
With coordinated effort by the local police, all the occupants were rescued safely after a two-hour operation, they added.
According to Chorgalia station house officer (SHO) Rajesh Joshi, the incident took place around 12.30am when the victims were trying to cross the Sher Nala. Due to an unexpected surge in water levels, the strong current overturned the vehicle and trapped all the 10 passengers.
"Locals immediately informed the police control room, and a rescue team rushed to the spot. Despite being dark and flow of water being swift, our team safely rescued all the 10 people within two hours," SHO Joshi said.
The passengers were identified as driver Rahul Kashyap, Aman Kashyap, Titu Diwakar, Manish Lodhi, Ramesh Chandra, Chandra Sen, Ankit Katiyar, Karan Lodhi, Rohit Kashyap, and Abhimanyu, all residents of Pilibhit in Uttar Pradesh.
