10 detained as Domicile policy stir intensifies
PATNA, July 3 -- Police baton-charged a group of aspirants, including several girls, who were demanding the implementation of a domicile policy, at Dak Bungalow Chowk in the state capital on Wednesday. Around 10 protestors were taken into custody, according to police sources.
The protestors, led by Dilip Kumar, began their march from Patna College and proceeded via Naya Tola, Exhibition Road, and Gandhi Maidan before reaching Dak Bungalow. Their objective was to march towards the CM residence to press for the enforcement of a domicile policy in state recruitments. A large number of female aspirants also participated in the march.
Police had placed barricades at Dak Bungalow and attempted to pacify the protestors to clear the area and restore traffic movement. However, the agitators refused to back down, resulting in a traffic blockade for nearly two hours.
As the situation began to spiral out of control, police reportedly resorted to lathicharge. Witnesses alleged police used excessive force, even though the protestors were unarmed....
