'Transit passes for Nepal citizens valid till Nov 30'
Pithoragarh, Nov. 17 -- The Dharchula sub-divisional administration in Pithoragarh district has extended the validity of transit passes issued to Nepalese citizens from October 30 to November 30, allowing additional time for residents of two high-altitude Nepal villages to cross into India en route to their winter settlements, said officials on Sunday.
The move was necessitated after villagers from Tinkar and Changru in Nepal's Darchula district, who traditionally migrate to lower regions during winter, reported inability to reach the border in time due to unspecified delays. These residents use a notified stretch of Indian territory near Sita Pul in Garbiyang, as Nepal lacks a motorable road to their remote settlements.
"This decision has been taken on the request of the Nepalese administration of Darchula district," said Jitendra Verma, SDM Dharchula. The administration has issued 2,690 transit passes so far this season to facilitate the movement of Nepalese citizens through the restricted Indian corridor.htc...
