'There is no match to the vision of Nitish Kumar'
India, Nov. 5 -- Atirek Kumar is a JD(U) candidate from Kusheshwar Asthan (reserved) seat in Darbhanga, and is being seen as lucky even before the elections, as he does not face any opponent. VIP had fielded a candidate from there, but his nomination got rejected. Arun Kumar of HT caught up with Ashok Kumar, former minister and Atirek's father, who resigned from the Congress after decades of relationship, to know how his US-educated son got into politics to continue the family legacy into the third generation.
It was not so, but my son wanted to contest election and CM Nitish Kumar straightaway asked him to work in the constituency. My resignation from the Congress was a well thought out decision, as I got a feel that my services were no more required by the party the way I was treated during the last Lok Sabha election and after that.
Family legacy can give one an opportunity, as it happens in other professions, but it requires hard work and people's approval to achieve lasting acceptance for continuity. My father late Baleshwar Ram was a minister and seven-term MLA due to his acceptability and I followed it up with six times, with no finger pointing at both of us at any point of time. I hope my son also follows the legacy of winning people's heart with his service and dedication.
It is true that he had many good offers, but he chose to return to his roots. I was also a doctor and serving as medical officer when I decided to join politics, which my father also did not want at that time. But I worked hard and carried forward my father's legacy. I think it is invariably a call from within. I did not object to his inclination. He had been doing backroom arrangement for my elections, and so he must have learnt a lot. He also got elected as Youth Congress vice president and was also given ticket once, but the RJD also fielded a candidate despite alliance to hurt his prospects.
The entire constituency seemed to have emerged as Nitishji held the hand of my son, walked up to the people and asked them to vote for him. It was an overwhelming experience for me as well as the people of Kusheshwar Asthan. He is a leader everyone looks up to. All the NDA leaders, including JD(U) working president Sanjay Kumar Jha, former CM Jitan Ram Manjhi and BJP MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy have been to Kushseshwar Asthan.
People say so, but every election needs to fought till the end. There are other candidates, including independents. I hope people bless my son with a big mandate and my son responds with equally good work to cement his place in their heart.
Look, RJD chief Lalu Prasad's intention to kill Congress in Bihar has succeeded and there was no room for us to continue. The Congress has nothing left of the Jawaharlal Nehru to Rajiv Gandhi period. Since my father's days, I have been witness to the Congress journey, but now it seems to have drifted completely. I think I should have quit early, as in Bihar there is no match to the vision and passion of Nitish Kumar....
