Rudrapur, May 8 -- The lone student of a government high school in Nainital who failed to clear class 10 board examination has been found to be suffering from learning disability, officials aware of the development said. The fact came to light after chief education officer (CEO), Nainital, visited the school to probe the circumstances on Monday. CEO Govind Jaiswal said, "I visited the school on Monday on the instructions of senior authorities and found that the student was suffering from learning disabilities. Due to this, he failed to secure pass marks in the board exams." Jaiswal said such students lack learning capacities as compared to other students. The school has seven teachers, including a principal as per the government's norms. Apart from his medical condition, lack of coordination between the staff also came to light, Jaiswal said, adding the standard of teaching and learning in the school was found to be poor. The student failed to follow the course-related questions, he said. The CEO went for the probe after the lone class 10 student of government high school in Bhadrakot village, around 115km from Nainital district, failed to secure pass marks in the exam conducted by the Uttarakhand board of school education. The school was found to have a single student in class 10, when the result was declared on April 19, who failed to pass the exam. The results drew the spotlight on the school with people criticising the education department of the state. In the wake of the board exam result of school, higher education authorities set up an inquiry. The CEO was sent to the school to probe the circumstances and to decide the responsibilities of school staff. "The school is in a remote place and one has to travel on foot to reach there from the road. Population too is scattered and seven students were in the school from sixth to class 10. This year, five more students were enrolled and now the strength reaches to 12. The lone student has been readmitted in class 10. Another two students have enrolled in class 10," said Jaiswal. "I have submitted the report to the higher authorities to take action against the entire staff," he added. An official of the education department who didn't wish to be named said, "The administrative power of the principal has been withdrawn and assigned to the principal of nearest Atal Utkrisht GIC, Patlot, CEO Jaiswal further said. Haldwani-based psychologist Nikita Gouniya said, "There are several reasons for learning disability. It may genetical or after birth, such children suffer from zero learning capacity. They can't even differentiate between the words. Special trained facilitators are required to teach them. They teach them through special methods."...
