'Pauri Garhwal to be hub for high-altitude sport'
Haridwar, Dec. 14 -- Union sports minister Mansukh Mandviya on Saturday said that the Centre is planning to develop Pauri Garhwal district as a high-altitude sporting hub.
Addressing the gathering at the inauguration of the Sansad Khel Mahotsava at Kandoliya stadium in Pauri, he said, "Sansad Khel Mahotsava will provide a platform for excellence in the field of sport. As per the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a strong sporting culture was being promoted at the grassroots." Mandviya added that a synthetic athletic track was currently under construction in Chamoli district's Jyotirmath at a total sum of Rs.8 crore.
As far as Pauri Garhwal district was concerned, the presence of the Mahavir Chakra Jaswant Singh Rawat stadium and the Kandoliya Sports Ground provided ideal conditions for the development of high-altitude sporting infrastructure, and gave an assurance as to the Centre's commitment to the same....
