DARBHANGA, Dec. 30 -- Newly appointed Bihar BJP president Sanjay Saraogi on Monday alleged that opposition leaders had remained silent on incidents of violence against Hindus in Bangladesh, accusing them of engaging in vote-bank politics. Addressing the media during his first visit to Darbhanga after assuming office, Saraogi claimed that leaders such as Rahul Gandhi, Mamata Banerjee, and Tejashwi Yadav had not condemned the reported violence, which he attributed to electoral considerations. Responding to a question, the BJP leader also commented on the reported brouhaha over the state government's directive asking Rabri Devi to vacate the official bungalow in Patna. Former chief ministers Lalu Prasad and Rabri Devi, however, continued to occupy the 10 Circular Road bungalow long after leaving office. The BJP state chief said the government had a defined policy for allotting official residences to leaders of both the ruling party and the opposition. He wryly remarked that Lalu Prasad's real place is elsewhere; since he is currently out on bail, his actual destination could be a place like Beur. Saraogi further said he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi earlier in the day, sought his blessings, and received guidance on organisational matters. He added that discussions also covered makhana, Mithila painting, and the overall development of Bihar. According to Saraogi, the Prime Minister showed interest in the pricing mechanism of makhana and the returns earned by farmers. Expressing confidence ahead of upcoming assembly elections, Saraogi claimed that the BJP would form the next government in West Bengal and return to power in Assam. The state BJP president was accorded a warm welcome on his arrival in Darbhanga, marking his first visit after assuming charge at the party's state headquarters....
