India, Dec. 17 -- With the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) returning to power in Bihar with a thumping majority in the 2025 Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party has handed the reins of its state unit to one of its most seasoned legislators. Darbhanga town MLA Sanjay Saraogi, 56, an MA and MBA, has won six consecutive terms and served as a minister in the previous NDA government. He has now been appointed president of the Bihar BJP at a crucial juncture. As the NDA - comprising the BJP, JD(U), LJP (Ram Vilas), HAM and RLM - begins its new term, Saraogi's leadership will be key to managing alliance coordination, strengthening the party organisation, and shaping the government's political and developmental priorities. In an interview with Hindustan Times, Saraogi speaks to Bishnu K Jha on the NDA's mandate, his new role, coalition dynamics, and the road ahead for Bihar. My early education was at Bhartiya Shishu Mandir, run by the RSS in Darbhanga. My journey in public life began with student politics and grassroots organisation. For two decades, the people of Darbhanga Sadar have continued to place their trust in me. The party reposed faith in me by giving me tickets, and the people have elected me for a sixth consecutive term since February 2005. In the BJP, even a grassroots worker handling responsibilities at the booth level comes under the notice of the party's top leadership. It is only in the BJP that an ordinary worker can rise to the highest levels of the organisation. A case in point is our young leader, Nitin Nabin ji, who has been appointed to the top position of national executive president of the party. There are many such examples in the BJP-our respected Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji and Union home minister Amit Shah ji have both risen from the grassroots. I will make every possible effort to live up to the trust placed in me by the Prime Minister, the home minister, national president JP Nadda, and working president Nitin Nabin. Along with this, our endeavour will be to take the Prime Minister's vision to every section of society through the party organisation. The NDA government has been formed with a massive majority under the leadership of the Hon'ble Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Through the party organisation, we will continuously work to ensure strong coordination between the government and the organisation so that the voice of workers effectively reaches the government. We will also focus on how to further strengthen the BJP. At the same time, taking the developmental work carried out after the formation of the NDA government to the people at large, through the organisation, will be a key priority. Naturally, maintaining smooth coordination within the alliance is also important. Answer: The people of Darbhanga are not just voters for us; they are part of our family. Along with the development of Darbhanga, standing with the people in their joys and sorrows and resolving their problems has always been my top priority. Since Independence, no one from Darbhanga city had won elections for two consecutive terms. In the past, there were leaders who won twice, but not consecutively. It is because of the immense blessings and trust of the people of Darbhanga that I have been continuously representing this constituency since 2005. I have earlier been given opportunities to discharge responsibilities within the organisation and in various other roles. However, I have never faced any difficulty in serving the people of my constituency. Answer: As soon as the announcement was made, I came to Darbhanga - my birthplace and workplace - and sought the blessings of Maa Janki and Shyama Mai. On Wednesday, I will visit Kusheshwarasthan, which is recognised as the Baba Dham of Mithila, to offer prayers. Thereafter, on December 18, I will formally assume charge of my post....
